Wells and Completion Engineer - Texas

Upwing Energy is seeking an experienced and motivated Wells and Completions Engineer with a strong background in well design, drilling, completion and workover operations within the oil and gas industry. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of experience delivering and managing well construction, completion and workover activities from planning through execution. They will demonstrate a solid understanding of well integrity, completion design, stimulation operations, and industry standards & regulations.


The Wells and Completions Engineer will be responsible for understanding client well designs, drilling and completion programs, and operational objectives to leverage the Subsurface Compressor System. This role involves engaging with client subsurface, drilling, and completions teams to ask the right technical questions, evaluate well conditions, and propose fit-for-purpose solutions that optimize performance, efficiency, and reliability. The position requires the ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts to a wide range of stakeholders and to support the successful deployment of Upwing’s advanced downhole technologies in client-operated wells.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop fit-for-purpose technical solutions and recommendations that integrate Upwing Energy products to optimize well performance, reliability, and efficiency.
  • Act as technical interface between client well design and Upwing’s downhole technology with client drilling, completions, and subsurface teams to ask technical questions, clarify requirements, and coordinate technical solutions.
  • Provide input to project teams in planning and execution phases by providing technical guidance, drafting workover and operational plans, and supporting with engineering reviews.
  • Analyze well data, performance metrics, and field feedback to provide insights, identify lessons learned, and recommend improvements for future deployments.
  • Work closely with internal engineering, product, and operations teams to ensure solutions are technically sound, feasible, and aligned with product capabilities.

Skills, Experience, Education, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in wells engineering, completions, or drilling support within the oil and gas industry.
  • Experience in reviewing and analyzing client well designs, drilling programs, and completion strategies, including opportunities to optimize performance using advanced downhole technologies.
  • Strong knowledge of well integrity, completions design, stimulation, and operational constraints, with the ability to evaluate risks and propose technical solutions; specifically in gas well applications.
  • Skilled in interpreting well schematics, P&IDs, completion diagrams, and operational reports, with familiarity of industry standards such as API, ISO, ASME, NACE, etc.
  • Proficient in engineering analysis tools, completion design software, and Microsoft Office, with the ability to support proposals, reporting, and technical presentations.
  • Thorough understanding of oil and gas operational standards, HSE requirements, and regulatory compliance, ensuring all solutions align with safety and performance expectations.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

  • The role allows for remote work when appropriate, but the candidate must maintain a strong presence on-site coupled with frequent site visits to upstream/midstream gas installations, vendors and clients, both domestically and internationally. Estimated travel expected to be 10% on average.
  • Must be comfortable working in a high-paced environment with field operations in challenging conditions.
  • This position is based out of Upwing Energy's Katy, Texas facility.
