Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will support our engineering department in the design of our Subsurface Compressor System™ (SCS), test fixtures and tooling.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Generates 3D & 2D design solutions for Subsurface Compressor System technology and related components, including new designs and modification of existing designs
  • Generates the supporting documentation (e.g. drawing, engineering changes, layouts, engineering reports, test plans, specifications, etc.)
  • Works with suppliers to determine and apply best manufacturing methods to the design, in the form of dimensions, tolerances, & processes
  • Knowledge of ASME Y14.5 Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
  • Electro-Mechanical design and component packaging
  • Conceptualization of new designs based on existing proven designs and innovations
  • Technical calculations in areas of mechanical design and packaging of high-speed rotating machinery
  • Technical risk identification, mitigation plans as well as development and execution of alternate paths in the design
  • Maintain technical ownership of the design
  • Detail design of component parts and assemblies
  • Working with inside and outside resources to ensure optimum manufacturing efficiency and cost in design
  • Design of associated assembly and process tooling for component fabrication
  • Maintain the version updates on the history of the product in the PDMWorks Configuration Control vault
  • Manage BOM and drawing release status and processes
  • Ensure timely and correct technical release of drawings to meet project schedule
  • Assist the other project team members in cross-functional activities when necessary
  • Review drawings for completeness and accuracy
  • Apply critical thinking to all steps

Skills, Experience, Education, and Abilities:

  • B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering is required
  • 8+ years of engineering design experience
  • 2+ years of experience with Solidworks 3D modeling software
  • Experience in rotating machinery is a plus
  • Experience with high-speed machines and/or permanent magnet motors is a plus
  • Some past project management, coordination or oversight is a plus
  • Strong written and oral communication skills

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

This position will be in an office atmosphere most of the time; however, the Senior Design Engineer will be required to support the build and test of products in the shop area. Personal protective equipment should be worn in all designated shop floor areas.
