Junior Buyer

The role of the Junior Buyer is to strategically manage the replenishment of material levels while optimizing inventory and reducing cost. The position will support all planning/procurement activities, including supporting production, maintaining inventory levels within the scope of business goals, developing supplier relationships, maintaining planning parameters within the ERP system and coordinating with internal departments to ensure timely production and delivery at the highest quality and lowest cost.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain uninterrupted supply of materials to meet operating plan objectives (shipment schedule, delivery lead times, working capital and cost goals)
  • Verify inventory stock on hand; identify and prevent inventory shortages
  • Execute supply replenishment (purchase orders, work orders) from system-driven requirements
  • Continuously monitor and follow up with suppliers to assure on-time delivery
  • Expedite, reschedule or change scheduled deliveries as dictated by changes in demand with the goal of continually aligning supply with demand and mitigating exposure to excess inventory
  • Source new components and services from new and existing supply base
  • Audit and change planning parameters to ensure ERP data integrity
  • Communicate forecasts to vendors periodically and keep supply base informed of changes to product requirements
  • Process supplier deviation requests and attain approvals
  • Accurately process purchase requisitions, purchase orders, packing slips and invoices
  • Actively participate in project to process production readiness activities
  • Attend trade shows and visit vendors
  • Other duties as needed and assigned

Skills, Experience, Education, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as marketing, supply chain economics or business
  • Experience in procurement/planning with emphasis on complex high precision machined parts and electromechanical assemblies, preferably in turbomachinery and/or high-speed motor/generator production environments
  • Exhibit good interpersonal skills to get along with co-workers and outside vendors
  • Communicate clearly to deliver vital information to upper-level staff
  • Follow directions well
  • Pay attention to detail to ensure specifications are being met and quality of purchases is up to standard
  • Display admirable negotiating skills in order to get the best deals
  • Demonstrate a passion for the type of products being purchased and a willingness to continuously stay up-to-date on manufacturing and commodity trends
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment with outstanding follow-up skills
  • Have a good understanding of Material Resource Planning (MRP) and integrated computerized manufacturing systems (ERP)
  • Have a good understanding of traceability and configuration management control to assure conformance to specific customer documentation requirements

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. using proper lifting techniques. Personal protective equipment may be required in some warehouse areas. Position duties will primarily be indoors with occasional travel to nearby suppliers.
